Dr. Orscheln offers several types of restorative injection therapies – these work with the body’s innate healing capacity to reduce pain, inflammation, irritation, and promote healing. Dr. Orscheln offers Prolotherapy to specifically address joint pain, and others like Neural Therapy, Peri-Neural Injection Therapy (aka PIT), and Ozone Therapy, including Prolozone.

Prolotherapy for Joints – For 70 years, Prolotherapy has been used as a simple, minimally invasive, and effective treatment for chronic musculoskeletal pain.  A non-steroid “proliferant” solution of natural dextrose sugar, local anesthetic and saline is injected into areas in and around joints to stimulate the body’s inherent healing processes.  This helps to repair damaged tissue, restore structural integrity to stabilize the joint and promote healing of chronic inflammation.  This may be really helpful for “wear and tear” conditions like arthritis or healing from chronic sports or overuse injuries to the hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows and wrists.  It is also helpful for joint laxity from ligament or tendon weakness.

Neural Therapy – Widely practiced in Europe, this treatment uses the local anesthetic Procaine as the medicinal substance, and this is injected into scars and areas of past injury/trauma/surgery or dysfunction.
Peri-Neural Injection Therapy – Uses a solution of 5% Dextrose injected just under the skin into tender points correlating with inflamed superficial nerves, and can provide significant and rapid pain relief to areas of chronic sprains, strains, and overuse.

Trigger Point Injections – This therapy also uses the local anesthetic Procaine, injected into muscle spasms, to help the muscles reset and let go.

Ozone Injections – Ozone gas has many healing qualities. This type of treatment has also been widely used in Europe, in many capacities, including through Injection.  This treatment often follows a Trigger Point, Neural Therapy, or Prolotherapy injection (this is called Prolozone) to enhance the effectiveness of the therapies – acts as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, and stimulates healing.

Dr. Orscheln has trained with many leading experts in these respective fields, including Neural Therapy trainings with Dr. Ralf Oettmeier MD from the Alpstein clinic in Switzerland and  Dr. Jeff Harris from Seattle WA. She also studied Peri-Neural Injection Therapy with Dr. John Lyftogt of New Zealand, and with Dr. Shallenberger to learn about Ozone Therapy.  She is also incredibly grateful to be completing a 1 year mentorship with Portland’s own Dr. Tyna Moore, ND, DC who is a local authority on optimizing and healing the musculoskeletal system through Prolotherapy and Regenerative Injection Therapies.
